Summit Road (Sign of the Kiwi) to Governors Bay

Time: 1 hour (one way); 2 hours return
Distance: 6.55 km (return)
Start: Dyers Pass Road, heading west, a small layby a few hundred meters on from the Sign of the Kiwi
Finish: Same place (it's there and back)
Date: Friday 26th February 2021

Starting this walk we were quite intimidated, not by the walk but knowing that one of us would have to write the blog in Britta's absence - I hope I've done ok.

At the top of Dyers Pass Road, at the Sign of the Kiwi, turn right and park a few hundred metres along the road at the first layby on the left. The unmarked track heading down the hill towards Governors Bay starts here. The track follows the hill  steeply down (parallel to Dyers Pass Road) to through Reuters Park - watch for bikers.
Part way down there is a feeling you're in Australia as the track goes through some Gum trees. At this time of the year there are plenty of blackberries (a pest but so delicious) along the way.

The track comes to a junction, take the left path and continues down to Dyers Pass Road emerging just short of Governors Bay. [Ed's note: there are a few junctions but take the left on all of them - especially the one with the memorial seat for Horst and Christa Reuters]. Take care crossing the road as there is no footpath for the first few metres. Follow the main road into Governors Bay then, at about 53 Main Road, on your right, follow the sign for Faulkner's Track up the hill.

Start of Faulkner's Track Main Road

Turn right off Faulkners Track at this point
Turn off Faulkner's Track here
Keep on the track until you reach another junction (the post saying "Summit Road Society" with arrows in both directions) and take the right track to head back up through Reuters Park. On your right the area is red zoned and the pink "castle" house is due for demolition. The track follows the hillside and then after a short climb just past the monument rejoins the track you originally came down.
